World Ultras
An “Ultra” or “ultra prominent peak” is a peak with over 1500 m of topographical prominence. This list really spaces the peaks out. There are only a handful “Ultras” in the loosely defined region of SW British Columbia where I’m living in, and there are 1500+ “Ultras” in the whole world. This list is considered as an “open list”, which means that nobody would ever finish for various obvious reasons. There are many peaks on this list that can still unclimbed. The current leaders of this “Ultras bagging” project are Petter Bjorstad from Norway and Rob Woodall from UK (300+). The entire Front Runner List can be seen on peakbagger.com showing who-has-done-many.
In order to participate in this “ultras bagging” game one needs to travel frequently including driving thousands of kilometers on monthly-long road trips and international peak-bagging. It’s up to you to figure out how to balance time, money and flexibility. This is definitely not a dirtbagging game. Those who are stuck in his/her “local region” can never go far into this game. Even just bagging peaks in the home country isn’t enough.
