Emei Shan (峨嵋山)
August 1-2, 2006
3079m
Sichuan, China
This was my second summit after owning a digital camera. Mom and I did it as part of our 2-week trip to southwestern China. However, this mountain was the least scenic part of this trip, probably due to the weather. Emei Shan, or Mount Emei, is a very popular tourism mountain and it sees thousands of tourists each day in prime season. If doing this completely on foot, one will need 2 days for the least. We tried to hike up but gave up midway and took a bus to its upper parking area the next morning. Then we hiked to the summit. Note that you can take the gondola from upper parking area to the top. The weather was bad as usual, and we couldn’t see anything far away. If weather is clear then you might can see the highest peak in Sichuan, a peak higher than 7500 meters, but too bad we didn’t have that luck.. I took another short ride to a slightly higher, but less popular summit. Weather was again, bad. Mom and I hiked most of the way down until the last bit where we took a gondola ride.
