Jasper – Tonquin Valley, AB/BC
McDonell Peak is the second highest peak (among Simon, McDonell and Bennington) on Mt. Fraser massive in Jasper’s Tonquin Valley, but the most frequently ascended. The reason is simple – it’s the easiest among the three. Ben, Liam and I did it as a bonus objective in addition to the ascent of Simon Peak, the main summit of Mt. Fraser. The approach and return is all written in Simon Peak’s trip report. The ascent of McDonell via its South Ridge wasn’t easy given the winter condition. Lots of caution was required negotiating the rime covered features.
