1665m
Alvdal, Norway
Tron, or Tronfjellet is a “P1000m” objective on the inland side of the Scandinavian mountains in southern Norway. The landscape here is very different than the west coast so it’d be good to see the both sides. I was completely unaware of this objective but then Adam did it on his second day here, and informed me it was an easy “drive up”. Erica and I happened to have a few hours to do something after finishing Galdhøpiggen, the high point of the country, but we did have to drive all the way NW back to the coastal inlets on the same day. I knew adding Tron would be pushy, but this was our only shot on this objective and we must push ourselves harder. It’s either now or never. I estimated that we would have to add another 4 hours of driving into the agenda and I probably wouldn’t end up getting much sleep, if any, as the plan was to get up at 3:30 am for an alpine start with Adam on the following day.
The Google Map directed us towards Alvdal and we made numerous stops for photos. There was about 4 hours of driving from Lom to Alvdal with all the stops along the way, but thankfully the traffic situation was easy and the scenery was entertaining. We did a stop for gas in Alvdal and then drove up the winding, unpaved toll road towards the summit. The drive was again, very scenic so we stopped a few more times for photos. The final few kilometers were on some extremely steep switchbacks but our AWD vehicle did have enough power to make it up. The end of the road was not exactly on the summit, but the walking time was less than 5 minutes to reach the actual high point. We timed ourselves in the evening golden hour so the scenery was rather good. The weather here was actually not that great earlier in the afternoon, but it cleared up nicely for our arrival.

I thought about to cook dinner on the uppermost parking lot but it was cold and windy. Erica suggested to find a spot lower down with better views to the south and I agreed. We did end up having some good time preparing dinner but then it was already past 10 pm when we started the long drive to the NW towards the coastal inlets. I managed to push for another 2 hours but Erica had to take over for an hour afterwards, and we eventually got to Skåla‘s trail-head at 2:15 am. I still needed to set up the tent and do those extra shits so the maximum amount of sleeping I could get was 50 minutes. Erica decided to skip this peak which was very understandable, but Adam was already there so I must go.
