Mount Munson

500m
Penticton, BC
Mt. Munson is the lowliest officially-named peak in the Okanagan Valley. It does boast almost 50 m prominence but it’s more like a pimple made of mud. The most famous aspect of Mt. Munson is perhaps that gigantic “PENTICTON” painted on the slope facing the lake. The area is in an official park so there’s a designated parking lot and a well-trodden path and the “ascent” takes no more than a few minutes. I had been thinking about this peak for at least 5 years and my plan was to wait for a gorgeous bluebird day to watch sunset from the summit, but I also wouldn’t end up being here if the weather was that great. I eventually gave up on the waiting and tagged it on a cloudy day with Kate.
Kate and I finished two of the more prominent peaks in the morning, Mt. Parker and “Cringe Peak”. I was thinking to go directly towards Giant’s Head and Mt. Conkle but changed my mind while driving towards Penticton. I suddenly recalled that I still needed Mt. Munson and there was definitely enough time to squeeze this objective in, so I made Kate to redirect us using Google Map and arrived at the trail-head about 20 minutes later. There’s nothing worth noting except for the magnificent views of Okanagan Lake from the top.
