Peak 881 (Spences Bridge)

881m

Spences Bridge, BC

This is an unnamed bump above Spences Bridge that boasts over 200 m prominence. This was by no doubt not the primary objective of the trip, but rather the add-on objective after finishing Nicoelton Mountain. The ascent of Nicoelton Mtn. turned out to be much simpler than expected and we wanted to make full use of the long drive. There aren’t a ton of officially named peaks in the area so I searched for some unnamed peaks that boast at least 100 m prominence. This hill seemed like the most interesting thank to the desert landscape.

Erica and I drove to the high point of Rannie Pit Road on the north ridge of this unnamed hill, and parked at a pull-out. I don’t think that pull-out was designated for the hike but that’s definitely a cool spot to leave the truck behind. We then dashed up the open terrain on the north ridge of the objective and even picked up some game trails. I’m sure the local First Nations do hike this route regularly. The true summit required a bit of traversing to reach and wasn’t as open as I was hoping for, but we did get enough views on the lower parts of this hike.

We did no lingering and quickly ran down the same route, finishing the round trip in under 40 minutes. I immediately turned on the engine and the plan was to take turn driving back to White Rock. I had work committed at 6 pm and the current pace would get us back by 5 pm. Erica took over the section between Boston Bar and Abbotsford and I did the rest of the driving. We even earned ourselves enough time for dinner. While working I made Erica wait in a nearby Tim Hortons and this concluded yet another long and exhausting outing.
