Pyramidenkogel

Pyramidenkogel boasts over 200 m prominence on the south side of Lake Wörth and is a very touristy destination with loads of infrastructure on the summit including a spiral tower that costs 17 EUR to “climb”. Adam noticed this bonus peak while driving westwards from Klagenfurt and knowing it’s a “drive-up” we immediately redirected the bearing using Google Map. We were originally going to drive directly from the hotel to Mirnock. Adding this bonus peak would cost ~2 hours of delay due to the traffic situation but we had lots of time. This was supposed to be a “rest day” after all, and the weather in the morning was quite bad.

There are a lot of trails on the lower flanks of this objective but we chose the driving-to-the-summit option, but failed to park on the uppermost lot. I sensed that we couldn’t find a spot to park so pulled into the lower lot which added 30 m elevation gain. I wasn’t going to complain about that. Instead of taking the road up we picked up an overgrown trail and did a bit of thrashing to get to the top. The very summit had some kids playing. I was hoping to “climb” that tower but the cost was too high for my like. Instead, we made our way down and drove towards the main objective of the day. This was a pure “dumpster-dive” that I would not recommend. Adam and I travelled halfway across the globe to bag shitty peaks like this and I thought it was quite funny. We are peakbaggers after all.
